British Values
Promoting British Values at St. Michael’s CE Primary Academy
At St. Michael’s, British Values are woven into the fabric of school life and underpin everything we do. We aim to help every child grow into a responsible, respectful, and active citizen—both locally and nationally. These values are taught explicitly and implicitly across the curriculum, in assemblies, through the running of our School Council, and through enriching experiences such as mock elections and class debates.
Democracy
- We value every voice and listen to all viewpoints
- We practise reasoned debate and consider both sides of an argument
- We encourage participation and teamwork
- We express our opinions in a respectful and thoughtful manner
- We vote and understand the importance of majority rule
The Rule of Law
- We understand the importance of clear rules and expectations
- We learn the difference between right and wrong
- We understand how laws keep us safe and protect our rights
- We respect the rules in school and beyond
Individual Liberty
- We take responsibility for our own actions and choices
- We challenge unfairness, prejudice, and stereotypes
- We are an anti-bullying school that champions inclusion
- We build self-esteem and confidence through learning and reflection
- We speak up freely and respectfully
Mutual Respect & Tolerance
- We treat everyone with respect, kindness, and courtesy
- We celebrate the similarities and differences between people and cultures
- We talk openly about faith, beliefs, families, and identities
- We learn how diversity strengthens our community
Our school community is shaped by these principles, creating a safe, inclusive and empowering space where every child can grow into a compassionate and active member of society.
