Headteacher’s Welcome

A Warm Welcome to St. Michael’s Church of England Primary Academy, Handsworth

It is with great pride that I welcome you to St. Michael’s – a school rooted in Christian values, where a nurturing environment and a commitment to excellence in learning are at the heart of all we do. Our dedicated staff, enthusiastic pupils, and supportive community together create a school where everyone feels safe, valued, and inspired to thrive.

St. Michael’s is a place of genuine care and high aspiration.

Since September 2021, our school has experienced a period of significant transformation. I truly believe St. Michael’s is a special place – a school where staff are proud to work and pupils are excited to learn. At the core of our ethos is a deep commitment to our families and the wider community. We are a school on an upward journey, driven by a shared determination to achieve excellence.

As Headteacher, I hold myself and my team to a simple yet powerful standard: Is it good enough for my own children? If the answer is no, we ask ourselves why – and more importantly, what we are going to do about it. The expectations we hold for our own children must be the same as those we uphold for every child and family at St. Michael’s. This principle is non-negotiable and wholeheartedly embraced by all staff.

Our school community is guided by two core principles:

  1. Academic Excellence – We are committed to ensuring our children achieve the highest possible standards, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to unlock future opportunities. Education is a powerful tool that opens doors and enhances life chances.
  2. Care and Belonging – We believe every family should feel loved, supported, and truly part of our school community. We strive to ensure that all who walk through our doors feel safe, happy, and valued.

By the time our pupils move on to secondary school, it is our ambition that their time at St. Michael’s will have helped shape them into articulate, respectful, ambitious, and thoughtful young people. Academically, we aim to lay the foundation for them to realise their God-given potential and achieve their very best.

We recognise that children only get one chance at education. At St. Michael’s, every member of our community – pupils, staff, and parents – understands the importance of making that opportunity count.

We are Handsworth.
We are St. Michael’s.
We are proud.

It is with great joy that we welcome all visitors to experience first-hand the values that define us: Community, Aspiration, Learning, and Love.
