Family Support

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

Matthew 22:37-40

Family Support Team: About Us

Hello!  We are the St. Michael’s Family Support Team – Mrs Nasreen Begum (Family Support Worker) and Mrs Kamla Devi (Learning Mentor). Our role in school is to provide support, advice and information to the families within our community.  We can help you with any worries that you may have in relation to your child’s education, behaviour and wellbeing.  We are also here as someone you can talk to if you needed!

We can meet with you at school at a time to suit yourself.  Advice and support is confidential, although concerns relating to the safeguarding of children will always be dealt with in accordance with the school’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.  We may not have all the answers, but hopefully we can help you to work out how to find them!

What can I get help with?

Support might be short or long-term, but will always be tailored to meet the needs of you and your family. Areas of support might include:

  • Support and advice in establishing routines, implementing age appropriate boundaries and promoting positive behaviour at home.
  • Support and advice in managing distressed behaviours and emotional turmoil from your child.
  • Support during difficult periods of change i.e. relationship breakdown, divorce, illness, bereavement.
  • Helping parents engage in their child’s education: working alongside you to ensure your child attends school every day and arrives on time.
  • Support for parents at school and in other agency meetings.
  • If necessary, individual support for children around areas such as self-esteem and confidencebullyingemotions, online safety, a new baby in the family or other significant life events.
  • Advice relating to housing and money worries; helping you gain control of your family budget.
  • Assistance in completing paperwork and forms e.g. housing, benefits, job applications.
  • Providing information and signposting to other services in the local area, including dedicated support for victims of domestic abuse

All support given is confidential; however, any concerns relating to the safeguarding of children will be dealt with in accordance to school’s Safeguarding Policy.
