Community Hub: The Orchard

At St. Michael’s CE Primary Academy, our Community Hub is more than just a building—it is a living embodiment of our school’s Christian values of Love and Community, and a powerful expression of one of our most cherished school rules: “Treat others as you want to be treated.” (1 Corinthians 10:24)
Opened in May 2025, the Hub was built through the generosity of charitable grants and the dedication of our school community, most notably the charities Taraki and Humanify. We have also been generously supported by the Grimmitt Trust and Taraki to fund the employment of a hub manager. It stands as a testament to our belief that faith must be lived out through service, and that every person—child, parent, neighbour—is worthy of dignity, compassion, and care.

A Space for Everyone
The Community Hub is a vibrant, welcoming space that hosts daily events and services for families, neighbours, and the wider Handsworth community. These include:
- Advocacy sessions to support families with housing, benefits, and legal advice
- Cooking classes, Zumba, arts and crafts, and toddler dance
- Stay and Play sessions for early years families
- Free English lessons taught by our own staff, open to parents and local residents
These activities promote inclusion, wellbeing, and empowerment, helping families connect, learn, and thrive together.
A Hub of Hope
The St. Michael’s Community Hub is a place of welcome, warmth, and witness. It is where our values come to life, where our families find support, and where our children learn what it means to serve others with compassion and courage.
We invite you to visit, participate, and be part of this growing movement of love in action.
